My last name isn't common. It isn't Smith or Jones or Cunningham. It's not even Strickland, Lancaster, or Holcomb. My last name comes from Italy; Arezzo, Tuscany, to be precise. But it's not even a common Italian name like Rossi or Marino or Ferrari. Most people can say or spell names like that if you ask, and can even say or spell names like Giordano or Lombardi without much trouble. But my last name always throws a curveball, even though I find it very simple to spell and pronounce.
Cutini
koo-TEE-nee
Maybe it comes easy to me because I grew up with it following me around? It never fails when I tell someone my last name, they go, "Cutini? K-O-T-H-......."
Um, WTF? No. Italian is like Spanish. It's spelled exactly how it sounds, and vise versa. My last name is not pronounced
KUT-an-eye
kuh-TIE-nee
or
Zucchini (Yes! It has happened!)
It's always the worst when telemarketers call.
"Hello, my name Peggy, calling from USA Prime Credit, calling for Mr. Andrew Cu.. Ko... Tchu... Ku...teh...nye?"
I've always wanted to say something like this...
"Hello and thank you for calling. Please listen carefully to the following menu, as our options have changed. If you are a family member, press 1. If you are a friend, press 2. If you are a salesman or are attempting to sell something, press 3 and hang up. If none of these apply to you, please hold and someone will be with you shortly." (queue The Song That Never Ends)
Maybe it's just me?
Andrew John Cutini
